Music Applications

Why is it that music on the PC now seems to have taken so much importance that it warrants a full screen application to manage your music. Surely music should be heard and not seen?

Long gone appear to be the days of Winamp style interfaces, XMMS hasn’t been updated for ages and looks unlikely to get updated and the latest in the long line of offerings all appear to be this full screen itunes-esque interface:

Winamp has been my fave music app for years. As my music collection has grown, I’ve become used to the way it’s library works. Moving to Linux, I had hoped that xmms would have the same library, but it hasn’t. So, I started using Rhythmbox, and now just recently, BMPx. Actually, once you start using these “iTunes-like” interfaces, it becomes clear that really, Winamp’s media library isn’t as good…
