New Apple iPhone Security Flaw!

iPhone

OK, you might have seen these headlines around at the moment mentioning that the Apple iPhone has a massive flaw that could make people more susceptible to phishing attacks.

And what is that flaw?

the iPhone’s email client does not display the URL when a link is selected, and that only the first 20 characters of URL are displayed in the iPhone’s Safari web browser.

I mean, come on guys. This isn’t even worth mentioning, its really scraping the bottom of the barrel looking for problems with a device that was expected to fail but has gone on to do quite well.

If people are STILL clicking links in emails that come unexpected then sorry guys, there is the exit door for the internet, take your free T-Shirt and pen on your way out.

If you really must pick holes in it, why not just go on about how its proprietary and only really stupid people with more money then sense actually buy into the whole Apple thing anyway!

Phishing is actually quite a big problem for the security conscious, not necessarily because phishing attacks are the most devastating or are the most common, but because there is no easy defense against them. You have to educate the users to recognise phishing, and cannot rely on automated mechanisms. Have you tried educating users?

I have tried educating users, it doesn’t tend to work very well and they blame the software for allowing them to do that in the first place.

However, if the software didn’t have the ability to access that site or gave them a big dirty warning I would expect more people to complain about being restricted to doing what they want you to do with their software.

Who wins?
